KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:
Vladimir Gubarev, journalist, playwright, writer, witness to the Chernobyl catastrophe. Gubarev was one of the first journalists who arrived on scene on April 26, 1986, just a few hours after the series of explosions. Impressed with what he saw there, he wrote Sarcophagus, a play that had become a huge success and was staged by 56 theatres. In the UK, the play was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theater Award

PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK BY VLADIMIR GUBAREV
“THE A-BOMB: FROM STALIN TO PUTIN” AND BOOK SIGNING
70 years ago, on the 29th of August 1949, the Soviet Union tested its first atomic bomb, an event that changed the course of human civilization and culminated with the triumphant flight, in December 2019, of the Avangard, designed solely for a strategic nuclear delivery role.
In his fundamental work, “The A-Bomb: From Stalin to Putin”, Vladimir Gubarev portrays the challenging pathway of nuclear development in Russia. He has met many of the country’s greatest scientists, has been to restricted access towns and witnessed the unique experimental testing. His book unveils many of the pages in the history of the nation’s ‘Atomic project’.
“I’ll be presenting my new book, The A-Bomb: From Stalin to Putin”, which is a collection of narratives about the nuclear weapon engineers whom I knew well. I have been to all of the forbidden towns. I have witnessed tests and I know how they went and who conducted them. The book relies on the unique legacy of nuclear engineering documents that I’ve received to write it. And the book is huge, it’s over one thousand pages long! I hope the people of Arkhangelsk will be the first to see it,” Vladimir Gubarev said to said to Magazine..

In 1986 Ljudmila Ignatenko was 23 years old, very much in love with her husband Vasilij, a fireman, and five months pregnant. They lived in Pripyat, the city built around the Chernobyl nuclear plant. On the night of April 26 Vasilij was sent out. Exposed to radiation, he dies a few weeks later. The Voice of Ljudmila is her story. Her character appears in Chernobyl TV miniseries.
The film will be presented by director Gunnar Bergdahl, member of this year’s ARCTIC OPEN jury
