September saw the area’s major cultural event – Arctic Countries Film Festival ARCTIC OPEN – start for the third time. Like in all previous years, this year’s festival is partnered by the Russian Arctic National Park.
The Festival and the NP will team up in December to run films in the Russian Arctic’s NArFU-based visitor center. Festival guests are also welcome to Gostiny Dvory, where the Russian Arctic NP will take them on a tour around the exhibition: “The Seven Brave Men. Tikhaya Bay. 1929-2019”. Visitors will be able to see the rare, archived photos of the first-ever team of polar researchers led by Otto Schmidt disembarking in tikhaya Bay in 1929.
2019 will see the NP awarding films in two nominations – the traditional Arctic As It Is (best feature or documentary about the Arctic), with top award being a trip, in 2020, to a polar station in the Russian Arctic, «Арктический Исток» and the newly established Arctic Daybreak. There is a special prize for Arctic Pitching winners, a place onboard the Arctic-bound cruise liner (2020).
