ARCTIC OPEN TO HOST ARCTIC MEDIA WORKSHOP

The 3rd Arctic Countries Film Festival ARCTIC OPEN features a discussion program with one of the key events on it being the Arctic Media Workshop. Open to all journalists who are take interest in the Arctic issues, the workshop will be led by some acknowledged Arctic experts to introduce the audience to the latest outcomes of the Arctic research.

Among the invitees are journalists based in Arkhangelsk and Arkhangelsk Province, Karelian Republic, Komi Republic, Murmansk, Nenets Autonomous Area, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Finland and Sweden.

There will also be head of secretariat of the Association of Russian Journalists, Denis Tokarsky, and representative of the local Arctic Projects Office, Marina Goretskaya, with presentation of the outcomes of the strategic sessions that had taken place in the Arctic areas of Russia as part of the preparations for The Strategy for the Development of the RF Arctic Zone and National Security 2035.

The workshop sees its main goal as equipping journalists with first-hand information, also from the Arctic research teams, said Anna Mengazetdinova, workshop coordinator, press secretary and advisor to NArFU Rector.

The forthcoming presentations will shed more light on, among other things, northerners’ health levels and the Arctic heritage preservation efforts. One of the local centers of excellence will speak on “The Russian Arctic: New materials, technologies and research methods”. The presentations will be followed by the discussion table called “The Sub-Arctic – Nation’s driving force or a source of raw materials?” and a session on the prospects of creating in the Arctic Zone of Russia a shared informational space.

Journalists are invited to join the festival’s other venues with more discussion platforms, tours, film screenings and meet-the-artist sessions.

As we have informed, the 3rd Arctic Countries Film Festival ARCTIC OPEN is a recipient of the RF Presidential Grant awarded to in the first round of the 2019 competition among the best civil society projects. It is supported by the Ministry of Culture of Arkhangelsk Region and co-organized by M.V. Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University.
